{"id":27,"date":"2010-01-14T07:35:38","date_gmt":"2010-01-14T14:35:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/brouzils.org\/programs\/?page_id=27"},"modified":"2014-07-05T15:20:07","modified_gmt":"2014-07-05T22:20:07","slug":"the-tripp-turner-workshops","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/www.brouzils.org\/programs\/the-tripp-turner-workshops\/","title":{"rendered":"The Tripp-Turner Workshops"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Two weeks of programs, presentations, workshops, and seminars devoted to family entertainment in various media\u2014books, film, teleplays, and web-based projects.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Turner-Tripp Workshops<\/strong> are intended for serious participants who wish to conceive, perfect, launch or complete books, screenplays, teleplays, or other projects intended for children and their parents.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/new.brouzils.org\/programs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/lionking200.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-107 size-full\" title=\"lionking200\" src=\"http:\/\/new.brouzils.org\/programs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/lionking200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"296\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>The program:<\/strong> Workshops in writing, screenplay writing, and other genres meet separately, then combine to discuss broader issues, problems and strategies. The work of participants is carefully examined in the largest possible context, but the specific technical and other problems inherent in different forms is given focus in smaller seminar discussions as well. Applicants specializing in children&#8217;s literature may also enroll for the first week&#8217;s sessions only. The second week&#8217;s sessions will emphasize family entertainment and screenwriting.<\/p>\n<p><strong>A two-day reading and family film festival<\/strong> (including a history of animation series) held in the theatre of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/chavagnes.org\/\">Chavagnes International College<\/a> concludes the residential portion of the program.<\/p>\n<p>Participants in the residential program are also eligible for continuing mentorships, insuring the completion of individual projects launched during the workshops.<\/p>\n<p>If your specialty is\u00a0<strong>children\u2019s literature<\/strong> and writing for the juvenile market, you&#8217;ll learn how to generate story ideas, how to create memorable characters, the tricks to developing a compelling plot, marketing strategies for the beginning writer, and technical and other creative elements useful for advanced and published authors.<\/p>\n<p>If you are writing\u00a0<strong>screenplays and teleplays<\/strong>, you\u2019ll find the Turner-Tripp Workshops very helpful. What makes a screenplay pop out from the pack? This intensive workshop will help you take your idea from pitch to polish.\u00a0Topics covered include the art of the pitch, developing your \u201cbeat\u201d outline, visual writing, and creating character through action. Follow-up mentoring is also available.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Faculty:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Jenny Tripp <\/strong>was recently nominated for the Sequoyah Book Award for Children&#8217;s Literature. She\u2019s the author of\u00a0<em>Pete and Fremont<\/em> and\u00a0<em>Pete&#8217;s Disappearing Act<\/em> (Harcourt), and\u00a0<em>Fais<\/em><em> Do-Do<\/em>, a children&#8217;s picture book (Harper-Collins). She is a Lifetime Member of the Writer&#8217;s Guild of America and has written for most of the major studios in a variety of genres, from feature animation, to live action, to movies for television, including\u00a0<em>Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Swan Lake,\u00a0The\u00a0Prince and the Pauper, The Trouble with Angels<\/em> and others.She\u2019s a contributor to the<em> Los Angeles Times<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Los Angeles Times Travel Magazine<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Family Fun Magazine<\/em>,\u00a0<em>DIG Magazine,<\/em> <em>Family Life<\/em> <em>Magazine, Mothers Today Magazine<\/em>and others. Her \u201cSanta\u2019s Homepage\u201d (1995-1997) on AOL was one of the platform\u2019s most popular features. She also wrote the spin-off television special, produced by Brandon\u00a0Tartikoff\u00a0and based on the AOL site.<\/p>\n<p>Her friend and colleague is veteran\u00a0Brouzils\u00a0faculty member\u00a0<strong>Priscilla Turner<\/strong>, a former executive story editor at Columbia Pictures and the author of television scripts for\u00a0<em>Miami Vice<\/em>, the Cosby Mysteries and other network programs. In addition to her film and television work, she is the author of several children\u2019s books, including\u00a0<em>The War\u00a0Between\u00a0the Vowels and the Consonants <\/em>and<em> Among the Odds and Evens: A Tale of Adventure<\/em> (both Farrar, Straus and Giroux), and the co-author of\u00a0<em>The Girl\u2019s Guide to Life<\/em> (Scholastic).<\/p>\n<p><strong>General information:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Registration fees:<\/strong> For 2015,\u00a0total fees for all workshops, discussions, film presentations and individual consultations is\u00a0US$3950. Individual one-week sessions: $2110.00. European participants will be provided with Sterling or euro equivalents.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fellowships: <\/strong>Those with manuscripts, screenplays or other projects demonstrating high promise may qualify for fellowships. Fellowships carry a stipend in the form of a tuition reduction and are awarded at the sole discretion of the workshop faculty and the seminars director. Brouzils Fellows are asked to lead a discussion of their work during the workshop session.
